In terms of nativity, 82.2% of Hawaii’s residents were born in the United States while 17.8% were foreign-born. Roughly 75.0% of the foreign-born residents hail from Asia.
Hawaii is a majority-minority state in which non-Hispanic whites do not form a majority. Hawaii was the second majority-minority state. Both Hawaii and New Mexico have been majority-minority since the early 20th century, but New Mexico became a state before Hawaii.
