The Melbourne Tigers have dropped out of the top four on the NBL ladder after the New Zealand Breakers recorded a comfortable 90-79 victory at The Cage on Sunday night.
Melbourne started brightly and enjoyed a five-point lead (45-40) at half-time but New Zealand showed why they are the defending champions in the third quarter when they went on a 19-3 run before taking a seven-point lead (68-61) at the final break and eventually rounding the victory.
Breakers guard Cedric Jackson fell one rebound short of a rare triple-double as he amassed 11 points, 11 assists and nine boards in what was a brilliant all-round performance.
Jackson was one of six Breakers to hit double digits in the points column.
Thomas Abercrombie (18), Daryl Corletto (15), CJ Bruton (14), Alex Pledger (11, eight rebounds) and Gary Wilkinson (11, seven) all chipped in too to complete an impressive team performance.
Cameron Tragardh was the standout for the hosts with 22 points (11-of-15 from the field) and seven rebounds.
Other notable contributors for the Tigers were Ayinde Ubaka (17) and Liam Rush (16).
Percentage is now the only thing separating the top-of-the-ladder Perth Wildcats and the second-placed Breakers who both have 11 wins from 16 matches.
